10 Dublin Statues & Sculptures within walking distance of our GoBases

 

The Irish capital is steeped in history & culture resulting in the city being scattered with sculptures & statues of interesting and notable figures, forever remembered for their contribution to Irish life ranging from music, literature to veterans of Irish Independence.

 

With everyone stuck at home again, we want to give you a mini virtual tour of some famous & significant figures in Irish life that had statues or sculptures made in their honour.

 

1. Luke Kelly

You’ll find the head of the legendary Dubliners singer just across the road from our Spencer Dock GoBase at the side of the canal & The Convention Centre.

 

 

2. Brendan Behan

 

Grab a coffee and chill out with one of the greatest writers to ever come out of this country. You’ll find the iconic Irishman across the way from our St. Ignatius Rd GoBase.

3. Oscar Wilde

 

In the gardens of Merrion Square you’ll find one Ireland’s most famous poets, he’s right next door to our Merrion Square North & Electric GoBases (we also have vans in Merrion Square South)

4. Phil Lynott

 

This iconic singer and guitarist is located outside Bruxelles pub on Harry Street which is a short walk from our Merrion Square West GoBase.

5. Constance Markievicz & Poppet

 

You’ll find Ireland’s revolutionary & first woman elected to parliament and her dog outside the Leisure Centre baring her name just up the road from our GoBase on Townsend Street. 

 

 

6. Irish Famine Memorial

 

This impressive piece of sculpture art documenting the darkest days in Irish history can be found at the banks of the Liffey, with our City Quay GoBase on the other side of the river.

7. Jim Larkin

 

Ireland’s iconic trade unionist is facing the River Liffey at the epicentre of the capital beside the GPO & Spire. Our South Lotts GoBase is just a short walk away.

8. Meeting Place Sculpture

 

Walking through Upper Liffey Street you’ll find this sculpture (also known as the ‘Hags with the Bags’) of two very Irish looking women frozen in time after what looks like a deep conversation. They are within walking distance of both Our Capel Street & South Lotts GoBase.

9. Patrick Kavanagh

 

If you’re looking for some good company & surroundings during a pandemic, you can’t go wrong with a stroll and a coffee to then chill and take in the ambience & views at the banks of the Grand Canal in the company of another legendary Irish poet in the form of Patrick Kavanagh. We have a number of GoBases nearby including Wilton place (& GoElectic), Cumberland Road & Fitzwilliam Place Lower.

10. James Joyce

 

The iconic Irishman described as one of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century can be found standing proudly on North Earl Street, between O’Connell Street & Talbot Street. You’ll find our Rotunda Hospital GoBase nearby.
